MINUTES
CRITICAL PLANNING SUB-COMMITTEE II
BAY/POND BEACHES
Tuesday, November 13, 2007
Present: Russ French, ~Bob Smith, Loretta Neilsen, B everly Fallstrom, Joan Sullivan
The minutes of the October 23rd minutes were approved with the addition of a corrected figure for the construction of the staircase at Thumpertown Beach and the inclusion of a suggestion for eliminating cigarette butts on the beaches.
Loretta mentioned that the water hydraking to eliminate excessive weed growth at Wiley Pond had started this week.
Joan reported meeting with Mark Powers, Recreation Director. The Selectmen have approved an increase in the tax payer beach sticker price to $20 for 2008. Revenues showed about a 5% increase this year. All financial figures will be available at the Dec. 17th Selectmen meeting. Mark feels it is very important to be welcoming to the summer tourists. Beaches fuel the economy in Eastham and without them our taxes would be 30 to 40 % higher.
The Committee continued to prepare for the Selectmen meeting on the 17th. Our presentation will be about 20 minutes with slides to highlight the areas of concern. These include renourishment plans, better sand quality on bay and pond beaches, cleaning of beaches of cigarette butts and seaweed and parking areas of litter, improved signage, poison ivy removal, etc.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Sullivan
